Nifty Instrument Tuner
I’m pleased to announce the release of Audio Tuner version 0.9.

I’ve added a few new ukulele tunings – namely D tuning, D tuning with low A, and G tuning. This brings the list of instruments in line with Audio Tuner Mobile.

It also seems there was a bug with the upgrade window. I only ever saw this occur on Windows Vista, but maybe it applied to other platforms as well. Anyway, it’s fixed.

If you’ve not upgraded in a while, possibly due to the above upgrade issue, please do so. There have been many improvements, and you will be notified when new and improved versions become available.

As usual, any feedback is welcomed.

Windows mobile instrument tuner
I’m pleased to announce the release of Audio Tuner Mobile 0.8.

Audio Tuner Mobile is a musical instrument tuner that runs on most Windows Mobile devices, including Pocket PCs and Smartphones.

The software actively tunes your instrument by providing feedback as you play the notes, and many instruments are covered: guitar, ukulele, violin, piano, bass guitar, banjo, mandolin, cello and autoharp.

This release fixes a number of important issues related to landscape mobile phones, and adds a number of new tunings for the ukulele.

A summary of the main changes:

The new ukulele tunings:

  • D tuning: A D F# B
  • D tuning with low A
  • G tuning: D G B E

Feedback is welcomed.

Audio Tuner Mobile 0.7 – crashes for Europeans and South Americans – eliminated!

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

Your mobile instrument tuner

Supernifty has released version 0.7 of Audio Tuner Mobile.

Audio Tuner Mobile enables you to tune your musical instrument to pitch perfection using your Windows Mobile or Pocket PC.

If you live in a country that uses “,” as its decimal separator… i.e. most of Europe, South America and a bunch of other countries, you may have encountered a problem with Audio Tuner Mobile crashing for specific notes.

This has been fixed. Hurrah!

Turns out decimal points were not being properly dealt with and this was causing the program to crash for specific notes.

I’m so glad to have finally gotten to the bottom of this issue. I hadn’t been able to replicate this in my own “.” based world.

If you have problems, suggestions, feedback or unrelenting praise, please contact me.

Tune your instrument, while mobile

Supernifty has released a new version of Audio Tuner Mobile.

Audio Tuner Mobile enables you to tune your musical instrument to pitch perfection using your Windows Mobile or Pocket PC.

Changes in this update:

Better support for crash diagnostics – in the past, a crash resulted in the application instantly disappearing without a trace. Somewhat unhelpful.

In most circumstances, this should no longer happen. You should now get a readable crash report. It would cause me no end of joy if you would forward this to me.

The crash report is also saved to “error.log” under “Program Files/Audio Tuner”, if you miss the message box.

Remember the last tuned note – saves you from having to select the first note every time.

Feel free to pass on any feedback about the software. Problems, suggestions and comments are welcomed.

Audio Tuner 0.8 released

Baritone Ukulele
I’m pleased to announce the release of Audio Tuner version 0.8. Main changes in this version are:

  • automatically pick the note being tuned
  • remember the last note tuned
  • baritone ukulele tuning added

Automatically pick the note being tuned

A number of people have requested this, so now you can try it out.

When the software detects a pitch for more than a couple of seconds, it will move to the nearest note in the selected instrument. So if your instrument isn’t way out of tune then this should save you the time of having to manually change notes each time.

The software also gives a quick beep when it changes notes, so this provides you with a truly hands free instrument tuner.

This turned out to require a bit of tweaking to get working, main factors being

  • ignoring signals considered too soft, and
  • ignoring harmonics,

so if it doesn’t work properly for you, or you have suggestions for improving the algorithm, please let me know

Any other feedback is of course welcomed.

Audio Tuner Mobile Users

If you’re using Audio Tuner Mobile, then you’ll be thinking that these hands-free improvements would be especially handy (or should that be unhandy?)

Once any problems have been ironed out of the PC version, expect these to be implemented on the mobile version.

More Information

All details about the software, including download links, are available here.

Audio Tuner 0.7 released

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

A new version of Audio Tuner is available for download.

The main improvement is streamlining the update process. Click “Help->Check for updates” to download the latest and greatest version. In this latest update, it automatically looks for new versions on start up, and will show you what has actually changed in the software.

This update also prepares the application for tracking downloads. I’ve had a huge number of downloads of which I can only track a small percentage. That is set to change.

I still have lots of things to implement to make this software the best instrument tuner on Earth, but if you have suggestions or ideas, please pass them on.

Plans for the future include a Mac version and a Symbian (Nokia) version. Is there much demand for these? Let me know.

Cello Tuner

I’m pleased to announce the release of Audio Tuner 0.6. Changes include:

  • Save your preferences – it now remembers the last instrument tuned, so you don’t have to keep reselecting it;
  • Up and down arrows select the note to tune – so you don’t have to use the mouse and let go of your musical instrument; and
  • Cello tunings.

You can download it from here, or if you already have Audio Tuner installed, click Help->Check for updates to get the latest.

Thanks to those who have donated to Audio Tuner. Your generosity is very much appreciated, and it helps Audio Tuner continue to get better.

I’m pleased to announce the release of
Audio Tuner Mobile.

Audio Tuner Mobile enables you to tune your guitar, ukulele, mandolin or other musical instrument using your Windows Mobile device. Why buy a portable tuner when your mobile can do a better job?

With the mass of mobile devices out there it is impossible to test for them all. If you try it out, please provide feedback on how well it works on your particular mobile.

Autoharp Tuner

A new version of Audio Tuner has been released.

This version adds tunings for the Mandolin, and the Autoharp. Also, the user interface has been simplified. The incoming signal from the microphone is no longer displayed by default, as it is only useful for troubleshooting.

Any problems or requests, please let me know. If you play an instrument that isn’t listed, feel free to send me the details so I can add it to the tuner.
